Learning During Quarantine
Overall, I've found the switch to online classes to be a difficult one. I have no problems with Zoom as a platform and I think my teachers are making their best effort, but ultimately, it is not the same. Like many other students, I find it difficult to pay attention in an online class. The format feels choppy and I find that I zone in and out easily, in addition to that, I spend half the time seeing what I look like in the webcam picture. It is difficult to focus also because of distractions like phones. I've tried to start turning off my cellphone during classes to fight the temptation to look at it.
On top of it being more difficult to focus/engage in an online class, its also harder to prepare for tests while being away from school. Some of my classes, such as accounting, are almost impossible to learn virtually, and even the ones where you can learn virtually, its harder to learn away from TCU. At TCU we have resources like the library, and your surrounded by other students that are on similar schedules to you, with similar goals. While I'm here at home my parents go to bed and wake up much earlier then I. In addition to that, I can never really sit down and fully isolate myself because someone is always talking, a dog is barking, or my mom decides to vacuum for the 10th time today. I know this situation is hard on everyone, students and non-students alike, and I'm grateful for the steps TCU has taken to make our lives easier. Hopefully this ends soon...

I feel the same. I just can't fully focus when I'm staring through a webcam. The only class that actually manages to hold my attention the entire time is my Advanced Movement class, and that's only because it literally forces me to do yoga on the floor. But even that class isn't the same when I'm all by myself above my garage. Hopefully this will get under control soon and those returning to TCU next semester don't have to spend a whole semester online.
