Being Home During Quarantine

I never imagined that my semester would be interrupted and I would be forced to come home. From having to switch to online classes to missing my friends and our planned social events, the whole experience has been frustrating. Although the P/NC's will undoubtedly increase my GPA, the marginal increase is not worth it. People always tell you college is the most fun of your life, and I can't help but feel cheated out of part of it.

I enjoyed being home at first, but now I'm tired of it. Being back home makes me feel like I'm back in high school with my freedom taken away. On top of that, fights with family are inevitable when we're all trapped in the same house for what seems like ages now. On a positive note, I am still a junior, so I have another year. I can't even imagine how frustrated seniors must be with this whole thing. I think TCU's reponse has been positive and I hope this whole thing blows over soon. I want, like many others, a return to normalcy.

  1. Agreed, sooner we can go back the better of our sanity will be no doubt, especially if holed up with the whole family hahah. I'm just glad VBo is still having us do a graduation commencement, it would have really sucked if they had just gone ahead and cancelled the whole thing.

  2. I agree! It's so hard being away from the TCU community during this time. As a senior, I never thought my last two months would be taken away from me, but I'm learning how to make the best out of this situation, and I couldn't be happier that commencement got postponed instead of cancelled. My twin brother goes to Vanderbilt, and his graduation is postponed until May 2021, so I can't even imagine having to hear that news! We go to such a great school and VBO has been wonderful during this whole process.

  3. I second this blog post. I never imagined I would be finishing my semester at home. It seems a lot more stressful than normal probably because we are all going stir crazy without normal human interaction too. I am so tired of doing school on a screen! At least we all know we are not alone in feeling this way.

  4. HAHAH this was funny to read - I definitely can second the inevitable fights with family! But be glad you have an extra year - I would live it up all you can next year! Hopefully there will be more normalcy around then.

  5. This post was super relatable. I went home for a few weeks during quarantine and ended up making my way back to Fort Worth. Unfortunately, it is boring no matter where you are. I am really looking forward to finding a new normal once this all blows over. I hope you can make the most of your time when you're home, even if it isn't exactly what you anticipated!

  6. Yeah, the situation is not exactly ideal. I often forget what day it is. I didn't even realize that it wasn't March until about April 16th. I think it's weird because every single day feels the same and the boredom is at times overwhelming. I know this comment is not that uplifting but at least it will get better in the future. We will get through this!
