Response to 1920's Films

Overall, I found the old films to be moderately entertaining in some parts, and boring in others. I thought each of the actors had some good scenes, with most of Charlie Chaplin's being entertaining. I was also impressed by some of the skill the actors had to be able to pull off a lot of the things they were doing, and making it look like an accident in many cases. I think the main reason that I didn't find the films to be entertaining was due to them being in black and white, and a lot the jokes not transferring well to today's time. I've grown up with HD, color television that has always had spoken word. Although I can acknowledge that the older films were probably funny at one point, I don't think they compare to "modern" television. That being said, I think someone like Charlie Chaplin would be a successful "modern" actor.

One big thing I've noticed recently is how much more I enjoy classes when I'm not chasing some due date. As a a general rule, I enjoy the honors classes more because the purpose of the class feels like I am actually trying to learn something, just for the sake of learning something. I tend to like the subject matter in my major classes more but it often feels like in those classes the focus is more on getting a grade then actually learning.  I also think that when classes are focused just on learning, I learn better. For example, whenever I think of past teachers and things they taught me, I normally remember some life lesson or story, not the actual course content. I wish our education system was structured differently so more classes focus on discussions and learning things, rather then learning a test. I understand that to some point, a class like accounting has to be accounting, but often with the core classes you just learn PowerPoint slides for a test, you don't re...

As midterm week goes on, I've noticed something about myself. I am the kind of person who plans out almost every hour of my week, and because of this, I'm normally able to accomplish tasks in a timely fashion with a decent work quality. I even plan for procrastination. This allows me to avoid a lot of the stress that comes along with midterms. Pretty much everyone in my family is like that to some degree, and I never really gave much thought to it. Ultimately, this week I've noticed that I am grateful to be like that. I do get stressed like any other person, but I've noticed that I normally feel prepared to handle it, and often I raise my work ethic when put under pressure. I've seen lots of my friends get little-to-no sleep this week, and I never want to, nor plan to do that. I always enjoy when I learn, or notice something (especially about myself), outside of the classroom. I feel like when I learn a lesson about something on my own, it "sticks" muc...
